Description: This is a custom figure tribute to one of the most infamous gangsters in history, Alphonse Gabriel "Al" Capone. Al Capone was an American gangster who rose to power during the Prohibition era. Capone was born in Brooklyn, NY to Italian immigrants on January 17, 1899.. He became a Five Points Gang member and worked as a bouncer in different organized crime locations such as brothels. Capone moved to Chicago in his early twenties to become a bodyguard and right hand man for Johnny Torrio. Torrio ran a Chicago crime syndicate that illegally supplied alcohol as the main source of income for the organization. A conflict with a rival organization helped propel Capone into power. The North Side Gang sent a gunman that almost killed Johnny Torrio. Torrio decided to retire and turned control of his crime syndicate over to Al Capone. Capone decided to expand the bootlegging operation by any means necessary which led to an increase in violence. His mutually profitable relationship with city police as well as mayor William Hale Thompson led people to believe Capone was safe from the law. Capone was seen by many as a modern day Robin Hood. He was cheered at ball games and was very charitable when it came to donating money to some of the local charities. Capone liked the attention he received from these events some of which came from very influential citizens. That changed when the struggle between the North Side Irish gang and Capone's South Side Italian Gang reached a bloody climax on February 14, 1929. The St. Valentine's Day Massacre resulted in the elimination of North Side Gang rivals. The killing of seven men hurt Chicago's image as well as Capone's. Influential citizens demanded action while the newspapers named Capone "Public Enemy No. 1".The federal government became highly motivated to bring Capone to justice. Ironically Capone was not arrested for the many crimes and violence he was responsible for. The federal authorities prosecuted Al Capone for income tax evasion which was a federal crime. Capone was sentenced to 11 years. Capone tried replacing his legal team with lawyers that were experts on tax law to facilitate an appeal. His appeal eventually failed. Capone was already showing signs of syphilitic dementia which eventually led to his release after eight years in federal prison. Al Capone died on January 25, 1947 of cardiac arrest shortly after he suffered a stroke. His criminal career has inspired movies and television about his life. This figure would make a nice addition to any collection. This figure was done mainly for display. Capone comes with a 12 gauge pump shotgun and a .45 pistol that tucks into his waist band. Please note- while this figure does not look exactly like Al Capone there is a bit of a resemblance. sold as is.stand included. Please note the following-when a figure is a custom figure that means it is not a licensed product,or "official" but something the customizer did by combining figures and accessories from different makers and toy releases to come up with the custom figure or figures. I started customizing figures a few years back because I couldn't find more than a handful of "official" releases and unable to find figures of people I wanted to collect. I checked in to the market of custom figures. Most of the custom figures available back then cost several hundred dollars, so, I started doing my own. Because I needed to support my new hobby, I started selling some custom figures. My prices reflect my acquisition cost, time involved, and some profit. Thanks for the look, have fun shopping!
