Description: Offering in EXCELLENT CONDITION... TAKEN AT THE FLOOD - THE ALBERT LASKER STORYThe Father of Modern Advertising by JOHN GUNTHER This is a RARE LONG OUT OF PRINT HARDCOVER BOOK with DUSTJACKET written in 1960. Albert Laskerwas one of the most interesting and influential Americans of the Twentieth Century. From 1926-1928,Albert Lasker, known as the father of modern advertising, had renowned architect David Adler design andoversee the construction of a gentleman’s farm "Mill Road Farm" covering 480 acres with 27 buildings. A completely self-contained utopia, the estate even boasted a movie theater and an 18-hole, nationallyrecognized golf course enjoyed by presidents and movie stars. There are thirteen David Adler designedbuildings that are all now private residences on Estate Lane in Lake Forest, Illinois. I grew up in a house off Oak Knoll Road in West Lake Forest that was originally part of Lasker'sgolf course and as a child played in the two overgrown former tennis courts (now part of a subdivision)and found old golf balls (and ancient indian arrowheads) in the woods behind my home. Although this book says copyright 1960 and has 0760 written on the dustcover, it does not say First Printingor First Edition anywhere on it so I am not advertising it as such, but it appears to have been printed in 1960.The dustcover has the price clipped and also has some edgewear and slight chipping. This has beenminimized by the dustcover being inserted in a clear archival Brodart polypropylene sleeve. The book itselfis in excellent condition for its age. I originally bought this book many years ago at an antiquarian bookstorecalled Bookman's Alley in Evanston, Illinois near the Northwestern University campus. It was run for thirty-three years by Roger Carlson, also a former advertising man. Has been carefully stored in a smoke-free and pet-free environment for many years.See pictures. What you see is what you get. Buyer pays $5.99 for secure shipping in bubblewrap and boxed via USPS MEDIA MAIL with TRACKING (within the continental USA). Shipping elsewhere may be higher. Bid with confidence. I have over 4000 glowing positive feedbacks and over 100 delighted repeat customers over the past twenty-four years here on eBay. Thanks for looking!
