Antique Edwardian 17 -18K Gold Insect Brooch Pin, Diamond, Ruby, & Pearl

Description: Antique Edwardian 17.17K Gold, Diamond, Ruby, and Pearl Insect Brooch Pin--whether fly or bee--packs a wallop of beauty into a bug-sized package! Note: I have this titled as 18K gold with a minus sign because no one searches for 17K gold. Not trying to misrepresent! [Thanks for understanding.] Gorgeous insect pin weighs 3.2 grams and measures approximately 1" x 7/8". The wings are white gold with cut-out swirls and 2 diamonds per side, for a total of 4. [Some people list these as Platinum, but that didn't show up on the X-ray] Body is made up of a yellow gold ball measuring 6.5mm and below that, a pearl measuring 6mm. Diamonds were authenticated with a Presidium Gem Tester, as were the ruby eyes. Pearl authenticated with ultraviolet light and the "tooth" test. This pin is not marked, but the gold was tested by X-ray using a Thermo Scientific™ Niton DXL Precious Metal Analyzer [X-rays are more accurate than a mark]. Working "reverse" lever catch was patented around 1901 and was often utilized on mini-Edwardian treasures. When the knob is down, the catch is closed--the opposite is true in more modern safety catches. Pin stem is not perfectly straight and has a wiggle. There are some slight scratches on the gold, which are hardly noticeable to the naked eye. This remarkable pin is in very good antique condition.
