Description: PLEASE NOTE: The moiré pattern in the photo of the plate was caused by my phone; the images in the original plate look identical to those in the Second Annual Report of the BAE. Hoffmann, W. J., "Remarks on the Antiquities of New Mexico and Arizona," pages 108-137, plus plates II to V in Proceedings of the Davenport Academy of Natural Sciences 3(2), 1882 (whole issue pages 65-192, plus plates I-V. Hoffman's article is competent and focuses to a degree on pottery. Importantly, he discusses and illustrates some Pueblo pottery collected by James Stevenson in 1879, but which is published here for the first time--prior to its publication by the Bureau of Ethnology. In a footnote on page 120, Hoffman offers his thanks to Major John Wesley Powell for allowing him to publish the illustrations first; the Bureau published the same images in their Second Annual Report the following year. Softcover, 9.75 x 6.375 inches, original printed wrappers. Uncut and unopened. Some darkening and chipping of wrappers at spine, a few marginal chips and tears to pages, and some darkening to the pages due to the paper's acidic content. However, overall this is in surprisingly good condition for its age. This is very tightly bound and cannot be opened far enough to photograph a page without damaging it. The plate shown must suffice. I do not accept returns. I provide thorough descriptions and good photos. Please refer to my feedback for evidence of the accuracy of my eBay listings for 25 years.
