Description: You are bidding on a huge original antique Engraving from an 1860s illustrated journal. It depicts the Senate Court of Impeachment Trial during the impeachment trial of US President Andrew Johnson. The United States House of Representatives resolved to impeach Andrew Johnson (17th president of the United States) for "high crimes and misdemeanors". Johnson was the first American president to face impeachment on March 2–3, 1868, when the House formally adopted the articles of impeachment and forwarded them to the United States Senate for adjudication. The trial in the Senate began three days later. The Senate failed to convict Johnson on the articles, after which the trial was adjourned. It is very large (double folio size), measuring approximately 21.5 x 15.75 inches (54.5 x 40 cm). The picture fills most of the page, with a caption below. The back of this print has unrelated text/photos on the back. The print has a fold in the middle, where it was folded into the magazine long ago. Note that the fold line is clean but it has several small holes in it from where it was sewn into the binding many years ago. There is an archival tape repair on the back of the print. See scan. The page is in excellent condition other than these holes in the fold line. See scan for an accurate view of the condition. This print will come with a Certificate of Authenticity.
