Description: VERY RARE PATTERN: US Army Cavalry M1874 Leather McKeever .45-70 Cadet Cartridge Box Very Nice Condition This is the Cadet Pattern box. It is a 5th pattern of the Model 1874 McKeever Cartridge Box with two brass buckles on the rear, which allows the box to be worn with a shoulder strap. Used with the US Model 1873 Rifle or Carbine. The leather is firm and pliable. Strong stitching. Overall, very nice and smooth finish with some minor cracking and surface wear on the retention strap, some minor surface cracking on the front to the left of the US, and some minor edge wear on some areas. The 20 interior canvas cartridge pockets are in nice condition. They are soft and pliable and not stiff or torn and not stretched out. These will easily hold cartridges. There are no rips, tears or fraying of the canvas. Nicely stamped on the side: Watervliet Arsenal and on the upper edge, it is nicely stamped Co. A, No. 12. There is the storage compartment for the take-down tool on the right side. It has some minor exterior surface cracking. Overall, a very nice box with very nice leather.
