They show some shelf wear (slight scratches/wear on covers and banged up corners), but nothing that would adversely affects their use. Most wear is typical of used children's books. There is no writing in the books, nor ripped/torn pages. Major defects to certain books is noted above. This set includes 9 hard covered books and 2 softcover (The Best Job and Leap Scrubs Up). These books are meant to be used with a Leap Frog Tag reader, which IS NOT included. This set would be great to expand your child's Tag library and is a great way to promote a love of books and reading.
