Description: Maxwelton Chapel, Book of Common Prayer 1869. G.E.Eyre and W.Spottiswoode. Maxwelton Chapel Nr Moniaive, Thornhill & Dumfries. Maxwelton House and its associated Mains and Chapel lie to the east of the Cairn Water, 3 miles east of Moniaive. Originally named Glencairn Castle, Maxwelton was bought by Stephen Laurie who changed the name of the property. It dates from the 17th Century and includes the bedroom of Annie Laurie, made famous in a song by Robert Burns. The Gothic-style Maxwelton Episcopal Chapel was built in 1868 as a memorial to John Minet Laurie. Measures approx 15cm x 9cm. Bound in leather with five raised bands to spine. Case of book is good, boards and spine show general age related wear/marks - please see images. Marbelled endpapers, front and rear hinges are sound, see images. The second endpaper is relaxed its entire length, still well attached entire length, as is opposite content page but please be aware, would have shown in images but only noticed when I came to list the book. The rest of the content is clean and well bound, please see images taken at random. The book is 153 years old, please be aware it will show signs of age and use throughout. Please ask any questions before bidding - happy to answer any queries. Will include FREE careful postage and packing via Royal Mail small parcel. Thank you. It has been decided that I'm the (not so) lucky one, nominated to dispose of a large collection of books that have been in our family for many years. We've also moved recently and I've made up my mind to make (some) inroads into our own collection of books. Some weird and wonderful titles, many very rare, particularly from the family library. I'll be listing them whenever time allows. Please keep dipping into the listings as I'm working my way through a large assortment of different books (and some other small/postable items). Any book dealers/collectors that would be interested in offering on a number of books, in one lot, then I will always do my best to shave the price by as much as possible. This would only apply to books listed as B.I.N. (I'll let the auctions run to give a fair chance to anyone interested). Please just get in touch with a list of what you're interested in and I'll get back to you with a price...same day in most cases. Thank you. I have given what I consider to be a fair and accurate description but if you have any questions at all about anything, please just ask.....before bidding. Please study the large images above to get an idea of the condition of the item.......as usual any questions I am very happy to respond. Book(s) will always be carefully packed. I always obtain a proof of posting from the Post Office when your item(s) is/are dispatched.
