Description: Rare, and possibly unique, cabinet card of two Comanche girls astride horses by Daniel P. Sink, photographer at Vernon, TX, circa 1895. The inscription on the print was written in blue ink with a fountain pen. The same inscription is on the verso in pencil, and was written before the card was mounted in an album or on another surface with glue, which partially obscures it. See a photo of Quanah Parker by Sink, taken around the same time and mounted on the same style of card here: https://x.com/TracesofTexas/status/1361075243364671489 The girl at right bears a resemblance to Parker's second wife, Chony (1863–1913). Quanah's and Chony's daughter Honnie (also "Honey") is one of Parker's children of whom I can find no photo. None of the identified daughters of whom I do locate photos resemble this girl. Her deep-set eyes resemble those of Chony, known from a photo of Parker with her and another wife. See that image here, where Chony is at right: https://gateway.okhistory.org/ark:/67531/metadc231778/ Honnie's birth year is recorded as 1882 by the Comanche Nation. Some sources on the internet state both 1882 and 1892 on the same webpage, but it appears that 1882 is correct. If she is the girl at right, she appears to be about 13, putting the date of the photo around 1895. I am unable to identify the daughter at left by name, and they may be daughters of different wives. Any suggestions regarding identity would be appreciated. I cannot locate another copy of this photograph, and I find few photos by Sink. Daniel P. Sink, born in North Carolina in 1846, moved to Vernon, TX in 1889 and established a photography studio that he ran until 1919. Sink is known for several photographs of Quanah Parker and other Comanches. Dimensions of card: 4.25 x 6.5 inches Condition is represented well by the scans. The card shows wear and soiling. The surface of the print shows only light wear from handling. I do not accept returns. I provide thorough descriptions and good photos.
