Very good, some foxing, light rubbing and wear to binding. Owned by Elizabeth Gochenauer (approx. 1818-1914), who lived in Bamford, PA, a subsection of East Hempfield township in Lancaster County. The album is filled with autographs of her friends and family mainly in Lancaster County, almost always accompanied by verses of sentiment, some original. Dates range from 1853 to 1867. Inside the front cover has been pasted a postcard from 1910 showing a tobacco crop in Bamford grown by Ms. Gochenauer, with notes from a relative that she died in 1914. Gochenauer is spelled various ways, including Gochnaur, Gochenauer and Gochenaur. The family was one of the earliest settlers in Lancaster County and lived in East Hempfield, Pequea township and that general area. Another prominent name in this album is Hershey, and there are probably some who are relatives of Milton Hershey, the chocolateer, who was also a Lancaster County native.
