Description: This may be an early card for William "Bill" Richardson, who arrived in Gallup in the 1940s with his father and ran Richardson’s Trading Company for decades before passing away in 2017. It could also be his father's card, but I am unable to locate his name. The street address on the card is one block east of the present location of Richardson’s, unless the street was renumbered at some point. The statement “Genuine Government Stamped Indian Jewelry” is a reference to the Indian Arts and Crafts Board’s jewelry certification program, which existed from April 1938 to June 1943. Neither Richardson nor any other trader in Gallup had jewelry approved under the program, but C. G. Wallace at Zuni and a few other traders had hundreds of pieces approved, and they supplied stamped items to many dealers, including Maisel’s Indian Trading Post in Albuquerque. Dimensions and condition. 2.3 x 3.9 inches. Condition good. Soft creasing through the lower center vertically and at lower left; crack in upper right corner. Very minor soiling. Condition represented well by the scan. I do not accept returns. I provide thorough descriptions and good photos. Please refer to my feedback for evidence of the accuracy of my eBay listings over nearly 25 years.
