Description: Brand new copy, see images for details and feel free to reach out with any questions! Binding and hinges are solid, pages clean, fine copy! ANONYMOUS [attributed to Edward Kelly]. Manuscriptial Compendium 1592 - 1597 [A facsimile edition of a Rosicrucian Alchemical Manuscript on The Philosopher’s Stone, containing the Three Magisteriums of the Art, attributed to Edward Kelley]. United Kingdom: Hell Fire Club, nd. [2008]. Facsimile Edition. Full leather with gilt talismanic device on front board. Marbled endpapers. 6¼" x 7⅞". [ii (blank) + 78pp.] Edition limited to 500 numbered copies (although as often, the limitation notice and number which were supposed to have been hand-written on the verso of the front free endpaper are absent from this copy). Note - this is the first Hell-Fire Club Edition, limited to 500 copies. The publisher appears to have later issued an (unstated) second edition, limited to 200 copies. In addition to the changed limitation statement, the second edition is easily identifiable as it has titling on the front board, which was not present on the first edition. [Facsimile edition of a previously-unpublished handwritten notebook circa 1860, which is said to reflect the alchemical traditions that became a part of the Societas Rosicruciana in Anglia and the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. The text is facsimile reproduction of the handwritten original. There is no title page as such, the first page is headed: “Manuscriptial Compendium During 1592- 1597” beneath which is a short account of the adventures and death of an alchemist named “Kallnuss” - apparently reflecting well known accounts of the tale of Edward Kelly, although with some significant differences. Several short introductory chapters follow, before the text itself - a lengthy alchemical treatise - begins. Although the publisher does not state as much, the manuscript appears to be in the handwriting of William Alexander Ayton (1816-1909) the Anglican clergyman and Golden Dawn Member whose passion for alchemy led him to collect and transcribe numerous manuscripts.]
