Description: This listing is for the oil painting titled La Virgen Maria after the Greek painter El Greco (1541-1614). I purchased it at an estate sale iu Oregon where there were relatively many vintage and antique items. I do not know old it is. I would guess that it from sometime around the middle part of the twentieth century. I leave it to buyer to decide how old it is. The painting measures close to 4 ¾ by 6 5/8 inches. The wooden board that frames it measures close to 8 by 11 inches. Painting and board weigh close to 2 pounds 2.4 ounces. When I lightly tap the painting with a fingernail, it sounds to me like it is on some kind of metal. I would guess maybe copper. The metal surface is not flat. It is raised some and the surface is a little uneven with slightly rolling distortions. I think that it was made that way. The paint might be a kind of enamel. The condition is much like you see it in the photos. There is a small bit of some white matter on the reverse that I have removed since taking the photos. Otherwise, it is in excellent condition with no damage. My photos should give you a good idea of its general condition. I guarantee this painting to be as described and represented by the 12 photos after the general description. The photos are part of the description. Please look at all of them. Please know that the lighting in my photos is uneven and that there might be shadows or reflections. The colors on my monitor look close to but not exactly like the actual colors. Different monitors may show different colors. I often say that an item measures or weighs “close to” because in my opinion no measurements are exact and some things are difficult to measure.
